Yes, size matters! When fish are pressured from conditions like predators (cormorants, pelicans, apex fish), boat traffic, and anglers, the response is to “shut down” and focus on safety. That doesn’t mean they can’t be caught. You must appeal to the fish’s mood and offer up small, sometimes tiny, offerings. Micros are the best choice when fish are not chasing anything and shy away from larger offerings. They will still swim up and sample your micros under these conditions. The take will be very subtle and soft, almost like you snagged onto some weeds. This is known as a pressure bite. Load up on a variety of finishes and don’t forget to fish’em SLOW.
